Mtondo Camp is a splendidly appointed tented camp positioned on the banks of the great river. It nestles under the biggest Mtondo (Cordyla Africana) tree on the Zambezi and is permanently basked in shade giving relief from a sometimes unforgiving sun. This tree dominates the landscape and is a favourite meeting point for the elephants who feast on her fruit. The ambience is one of peace and wild beauty and the wild animals who have made this camp their home are a living testament to this. For fishermen the action is right there; the Tiger fish plumb the depths awaiting the challenge, primed to explode through the surface in a burst of colour and furious power that will thrill, excite and exhilarate. For the more intrepid a walk off the flood plain into the hills to the north offers an entirely new adventure. Waterfalls, hidden rock pools, caves and crevasses entice, excite and invigorate. Klipspringer may be seen perched atop the rocky outcrops looking warily about for the spotted foe that lurks in the mountains they share.
Accommodation
The camp consists of 3 en-suite tented chalets, which are mosquito proofed, spacious, cool and comfortably appointed. There is a central bar/dining complex offering delightful views both of the river, the floodplain and the mountains. Close by is a pool offering welcome relief in the heat of the day. We take pride in our food and there is no shortage of fresh vegetables which we produce from our own elephant-proof garden. Our staff have been with us many years; they are polite, friendly and enthusiastic. Power is mainly solar supplied to maintain the quiet peacefulness of the facility.
