The Lower Zambezi valley lays strong claim to offering some of the most stunning spectacles of natural beauty to be found anywhere on earth. In the middle of this natural paradise is the Zambezia Private Game Reserve. Situated directly opposite the world renowned Mana Pools National Park with the towering Zambezi Escarpment providing a backdrop of rugged magnificence it is the setting for Mtondo Camp and the RiverHouse. It has not always been so peaceful. The sanctuary has weathered the stormy tragedy of war and was, for many years, ravaged by rampant poaching but the present owners, with the support of the responsible authorities have restored order, peace and tranquility to this area and the wildlife has staged a vigorous and truly thrilling recovery. This result was only achieved through the patronage of our visitors whose support provided much of the finance required to drive this little African renaissance. The owners of Zambezia remain committed to the extension of the protective zone into the Game Management Area surrounding the property. The sanctuary is home to a large elephant and buffalo population and lion are frequent visitors. Leopard are a permanent presence and there is an abundance of antelope and other species of wild life. Puku have been reintroduced. The game viewing is of a high standard and years of strenuous protection measures have seen most of the resident species tame down considerably.
